Dom za vesanje- Reflections

The day before yesterday I watched one of Emir Kusturica’s films ,,Time of the Gypsies ” ( Dom za vesanje). This wasn’t my first time because I watched Kusturica’s fims many times and I could say: There is nothing special in Time of the Gypsies, because each of his films are special and briliant but  doubtless, this film is unique because of the plot  full of drama and sadness. The greatest balkan director – E. Kusturica has accustomed me to magic and surrealistic scenes. He has accustomed me to poverty and gypsies.

 

But first of all….

He has accustomed me to MUSIC. It’s the most unnusual thing and matches to his crazy scenes and plot. Soundtracks are crazy and filled with balkan spirit.  Songs made by Goran Bregović, Boban & Marko Marković, Stribor Kusturica etc. makes a special atmosphere.

Since I have watched a movie, I listen  to Ederlezi Avela made by Goran Bregović.  My personal dream is making a party with my friends and dancing to this song drinking Vodka or Rakija just like Perhan but instead of being sad like him, be happy.

 

Gypsy music and the spirit of Papusza

Today I watched Polish film ,,Papusza” about the first  Gypsy Poet- Bronisława Wajs ( 1910-1987) called Papusza ( in Romani it means Doll),  who wrote all her poetry in Romani language. Her poetry was translated into Polish language and published in many cultural magazines, than into many European languages. This  film and beautiful Romani language inspired me to find some Polish Gypsy music, instead of that I discovered an awesome, wonderfull Hungarian Gypsy band – Rományi Rota.

I love this pure sound and very melodic way of singing. I feel this vibe in  each part of my body …. I just want to dance, I can’t stand without making a  dance moves to this music. I am filled with so positive energy and I am happy 🙂  The greatest discovery of a year, I think.

I started to read the Poetry of Papusha and it’s so pure and clean. There’s no difficult meaning, no hard words, just poetic simplicity. Truly, I recommend that to you.

There is a prototype of Concita Wurst In Bulgaria….

Hello…. I feel like I haven’t written posts for ages:) I decided to remind you about me and my love, which is Balkan MUSIC, so make a cofee, sit down in you chair and relax after a  full day of work,  reading my post:) Yesterday, I published a post on my second blog: www. balkantrainmusic.blogspot.com.  This post was about Azis  – a male gay singer with a beard. One of my friends who read that, said that my style of writting is very interesting but he won’t support LGBT movement.  Ok, I don’t want to support any movement even LGBT , POLITICS and stuffs like that. It’s just my point of view and I just want to share it with you.

After Eurovision and European panic caused by the winner, my emotions  has fallen down. I realized that  Azis  is also a phenomenon and he’s undoubtedly one of the most famous Bulgarian Musician.  So  check his music:

Neo- Medieval music. Is it too old for a modern world?

I am listening to Medieval music the whole day and I am wondering: What kind of people do listen to this music? Strange? Old  fashion? Boring?hmmm…. I think it’s very interesting case to discuss.

I remember the situation when I was running a music lesson in High School ( teaching practice). When I came in the Classroom and see all this 13 years old kids dressed very fashionable: Air Max, Creepers, Full Caps and stuffs like that….ohhh and the most important attributes of modern teenager: SMARTPHONE, I PHONE etc., the thougths in my head was like: Oh my sweet God..they surely listen to Justin Bieber, 30 Second To Mars and Asking Aleksandria, no doubt!

The Teacher asked me: What kind of music do you like? I said: So, Balkan music especially Traditional Serbian music, Balkan brass, Turbo Folk, Manele and  Pagan Folk, Medieval music, Polish Traditional music etc. She said: Seriously? That’s great!! Tell them something about this.

What? Tell the teenagers about medieval music in the times of Nicki Minaj and YT? I don’t think so!  They will laught at me. !!!!!

So I start with the words: Do you know  Goran Bregovic and Kayah ( Polish singer ) duo ? They made a CD Together…. and they said: Oh yes ,,Prawy do Lewego”  great song! ….And the rest of lesson ran perfect. They were interested in what I was talking about  and asked a questions. Really! So even 13 years old kids can understand the real side of music.

This positive attitude to that kind of music is rare, because people who listen to this sounds are perceived as old fashion mad people who aren’t modern. What’s more important, most people think that each Medieval  lyrics are about religious and God. No they aren’t, the Troubadours sang about everything! Don’t let the stereotypes lead our life, becouse we have much to loose!

Is Balkan music gypsy?

Hello:)

The question I asked in the title is not random. I love Gypsy influence on music, especially Balkan. This music is different, more spontaneous and comes from pure heart. Artists like: Fanfare Ciocarlia, Boban& Marko Marković, Esma Rezepova or Taraf de Haidouk proves that!

Today I was listening a lot of Balkan music ( as always) and I discovered one thing: the most popular Balkan songs (mostly Balkan Brass songs) are sung in Romani. Really! Goran Bregovic’s songs like: Bubamara, Kalasnikov,Caje Sukarije, Chupchik and many more are sung in Romani. (Goran made a cover of Esma’s ,,Caje Sukraije”, that why the lyrics are sung in Gypsy language.) Unbelievable! I am so excited about that because I had no idea. Every day people learn something new and that is the one of many positive aspects of life.

This day I am inspired by Kocani Orkestar, Goran Bregović and Esma Redzepova ( Macedonian queen of Gypsy songs)

In the times, when people don’t want to have nothing in common with tradition, supporting West and pop culture,  I don’t want to have nothing in common with West and pop culture, supporting tradition. I love POLISH FOLK MUSIC  and foreign Folk: Ukrainian, Russian, Jewish, Gypsy but the most- BALKAN MUSIC ( even strange styles like Manele, Turbo Folk, Chalga) . By running this blog I would like to promote Eastern Folk music, and show Polish culture.
